Job description

As a Software Developer in Test, you will help build software that enables organisations to manage access to people, buildings and assets securely. Within the security department, we develop access management solutions for complex environments, including large organisations and companies operating critical infrastructure. Reliability, security and quality are central to everything we do.
Your focus will be on extending and improving automated regression tests. You will use existing Gherkin feature files as a starting point. Your main responsibility is to standardise those files where needed and translate them into robust, automated regression tests. You will use and extend the existing test framework and select the right test level for each scenario: unit, system/integration or end-to-end.
This is a temporary assignment. You will therefore document the test approach, decisions and ways of working so that the internal team can take over, run and maintain the test automation when the assignment ends.
Your responsibilities

  • Automate Gherkin scenarios at the appropriate level: unit, system/integration or end-to-end.

  • Develop and maintain end-to-end tests in TypeScript using Cypress and Cucumber.

  • Work with developers on unit and system tests in Java, including with Cucumber-JVM and JUnit.

  • Analyse failing or unstable tests and resolve their underlying causes in a sustainable way.

  • Ensure reliable test data and help further develop dataset and environment provisions.

  • Make sure the automated regression tests and ways of working are documented and transferable, so the team can independently extend and maintain them.

  • Explore and implement end-to-end test automation with virtual devices and the Device Integration Protocol where possible.

  •

As a Software Developer in Test, you will work with the two focus teams responsible for our on-premises access management solution. Together, these teams own the content of new releases.
Together with software developers, product owners and test engineers, you will work on a physical access control solution used in a wide range of environments.
The teams work in an agile way, with existing Gherkin feature files forming the basis for regression testing. You will work closely with colleagues to standardise these scenarios where needed and translate them into robust, automated regression tests at the right level.

Requirements

You are analytical, take ownership and enjoy working closely with development, product and test engineering colleagues. You are critical, accurate and proactive, with an affinity for requirements analysis. You spot ambiguities or discrepancies between specified and actual behaviour.
Required experience and skills

  • Several years of experience in test automation within a product development environment.

  • Strong TypeScript or JavaScript skills, and experience with a browser automation tool such as Cypress, Playwright or similar.

  • Experience with Cucumber, BDD and Gherkin feature files, and an understanding of how to implement scenarios consistently and reusably.

  • An affinity for Java, or the motivation to develop your Java skills quickly.

  • Experience with CI/CD and an understanding of how to run test automation reliably and at scale within it.

  • The ability to work with SQL and investigate or modify test data when necessary.

  • A track record of building stable, maintainable test automation and preventing flaky tests - for example through sound test data, reliable element selection and independent tests.

  • The confidence to advise on test levels and help others weigh speed, reliability and coverage.

  • Experience with JUnit, SOAP APIs, relational databases or hardware-in-the-loop testing is a plus.
